It began with a tear in the sky, from which everyone below witnessed colors beyond time, defying the physics of their reality, as figures descended. Some ran in terror, but most observed with splendor. It didn’t make sense to them, but no one could quite answer what compelled them to wait for these deities to make their graceful landfall. It was when everyone’s eyes adjusted to this bright new source that features could be made.

These beings resembled humans, yet they boasted wings feathered with what seemed to be raw light; light suspended in stasis to the point where if it stayed still long enough, it would slowly drip, though the drop would wisp away and blend with the wind. Voices were heard but their lips did not move; as if the words were being transported straight into the minds of anyone willing. It didn’t take long for the visitors to adjust and speak with their mouths to foster a sense of comfort. Despite this, no matter the distance, everyone in the vicinity could hear them as if standing nearby.

They declared their purpose to bestow gifts upon humanity. Instantaneously, an enormous tree, reaching heights of at least 20 feet with bark glowing gold, leaves of amber, and round fruits that embodied the spirit of flame burgeoned for all to see. Though this fruit did not bear any nutritional value, its purpose was to be a source of light in the inevitable night that followed the dusk; to accelerate man’s resolve to conquer the unknown. It was up to the recipients to do what they will with this newfound boon and how their future is augmented.

After an hour or so, they began their ascent; all but one of them. It remained behind, fixated on a woman who would not remove her gaze from him; it was as if they were engaged in the most peculiar of conversations and not even its siblings would break the concentration. Suddenly, it looked back up to its kin in the sky and voiced, “I wish for this to be my home.”

“As you wish”, these were spoken as well for everyone to hear.

Shortly after, 6 more flew into sight and suspended themselves near the two already above. With what looked like a farewell, they all flashed out of existence, and were never seen again.

This day is known as Advent.
